The theme of the service is 'A Servant People'. Throughout the Bible the Christian message often proclaims the unexpected. Christ came to rule in the hearts and minds of men, women, and children not to capture cities by force. He came to serve others and not to be served. Call to Worship When Jesus asked, Simon Peter answered: ‘You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.’ Let us make the same bold answer, and let us come together to worship Jesus, the Messiah, the Son of the living God. Amen. StF 83 Praise my soul the King of heaven A prayer of praise and thanksgiving Lord God, we come before you in humble adoration. How blessed are we that the one who holds the keys to the kingdom of heaven is the one who has the key to our hearts. Thank you, God, for the privilege of being part of the amazing story of faith that sustained our ancestors. Thank you, God, that we know our future is safe with you. Amen. A prayer of confession When we think of Jesus, his example and obedience to give even his life on the cross and compare ourselves to him, we feel very aware and ashamed of our own failings. So we come to you in the quietness of a few moments to confess our sins. Lord, thank you that you are always ready to forgive us when we trust you enough to confess our sins to you, even when we feel we don’t deserve it. Forgive us for the times when just because someone else’s story is different from ours we don’t always want to believe it. Forgive us for the times we only live our story, not seeing the bigger picture. Forgive us for the times we see you as less than the Son of God, and our whole outlook on life needs a good dose of your love and understanding. Thank you that we know our sins are forgiven. Help us knowing this to live out our lives in a way which reflects something of Jesus for we ask all this through Jesus Christ our Lord who taught us to pray, saying:- The Lord’s Prayer Our Father in heaven hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen. Bible Readings: Isaiah Chapter 51, verses 1-6 Romans Chapter 12 verses 1-8 StF 566 Take my life and let it be Bible Reading: Matthew Chapter 16, verses 13-20 Sermon (A Servant People) StF 415 The Church of Christ in every age Prayers for others StF 248 I heard the voice of Jesus say A sending out prayer
Jesus told his disciples not to tell anyone he was the Messiah. We go out now, hearts so full of amazement and joy, that we can’t help but share the good news. Go with us, good Lord, and help us to tell everyone who will listen. Amen. The Grace The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with us all evermore. Amen
